STEPPING “SAFELY” INTO OCCUPATIONAL FOOTWEAR

At REBEL Safety Gear, we understand the critical role that your feet play in your everyday life, especially when it comes to your work. Your feet are your unsung heroes, bearing the weight of your entire body, acting as shock absorbers, and propelling you forward day in and day out.

COMFORT IS CRITICAL

The effects of spending days at work in uncomfortable or poorly designed footwear can manifest in different ways. Irritating blisters and minor aches might happen every few days, but over time, wearing the incorrect footwear can lead to compensatory issues such as swollen ankles, leg discomfort, and even lower back pain.

SAFETY COMES FIRST

Trips, slips, and falls are common workplace injuries, and often caused by inappropriate footwear. A minor foot injury can lead to weeks or even months off work and significant time in lost productivity. Selecting and wearing purpose-designed occupational footwear will give workers confidence, provide all-day comfort, and reduce the risk of injury.

PROMOTING HEALTH FROM THE FEET UP

Occupational footwear for workers who spend long hours on their feet and need to prioritise safety, hygiene, comfort and convenience.

The Differences Between Safety Footwear and Occupational Footwear

ISO 20345 and ISO 20347 are two different standards that define safety and occupational footwear. These standards are often used to ensure that footwear provides adequate protection and functionality for specific work environments. Here are the main differences between ISO 20345 and ISO 20347:

ISO 20345: Safety Footwear

Safety Footwear, defined by ISO 20345, is the standard for environments with a high risk of foot injuries, such as construction sites, factories, and industrial settings. This standard mandates specific safety features including:

01

Safety Requirements

Footwear conforming to ISO 20345 must meet stringent safety requirements, including features like toe protection (often steel or composite), sole puncture resistance, and energy absorption in the heel region. The footwear may also include additional features like antistatic properties, water resistance, and resistance to fuel and oil.

02

Protection Levels

ISO 20345 categorises safety footwear into different protection classes, such as S1, S2, S3, and more, indicating the level of protection they provide. Higher numbers denote more comprehensive protection.

03

Additional Features

Safety footwear under ISO 20345 may include features like electrical hazard resistance, heat resistance, and cold insulation, tailored to the specific work environment’s requirements.

ISO 20347: Occupational Footwear

Occupational Footwear, as per ISO 20347, is designed for work environments where the risk of foot injury is low, but other occupational requirements, like slip resistance or comfort, are essential. The key characteristics include:

01

Less Stringent Requirements

ISO 20347 footwear focuses on comfort, slip resistance, and other features important for general occupational use. However, it does not require the same stringent safety features as ISO 20345. There is no mandatory toe protection or puncture resistance, for example.

02

Additional Features

ISO 20347 footwear may include features like antistatic properties, resistance to fuel and oil, and slip resistance, but these features are not as comprehensive as those found in ISO 20345 footwear.
